About Us

Cooking Matters is a non-profit organization that teaches nutrition education and hands-on cooking skills to low-income families. We also incorporate food safety and how to shop healthfully on a budget through six curricula that are tailored to meet the needs of kids, teens and adults.  We teach classes in Boston, Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Chelsea, Cambridge, Quincy, Plymouth, Fitchburg, Framingham, Worcester, Marlborough, and Cape Cod, and are currently adding more sites.

Since Cooking Matters MA began in Boston in July 1994, over 6,500 people have participated in over 600 nutrition education classes. An additional 6,500 people have been served through nutrition fairs and other health-related events.  In addition, because more than 300 people have volunteered over 14,000 hours of time teaching Cooking Matters courses in Massachusetts, we have served more than 6,000 families.

Participating chefs and nutritionists include Jason Santos of Blue Inc., Andy Husbands of Tremont 647 & Sister Sorel, and Phyll Ribakoff of the Sodexo Distance Education Dietetic Internship Program.
